How do I use The Separation Guide?

The Separation Guide steps you through a process to assist you navigate the separation maze. There are five key steps in the process.

1. Review the website and answer the interactive Q&A

This helps you better understand how to navigate the separation maze and access the services you need. The Separation Guide asks you the right questions to get you to the end of the maze faster, with less expense, less stress and more support.

2. Talk to us about mediation or Guided Separation services

You can make contact with us directly or through your legal advisor if you need to use one of our nationally accredited and certified Mediators.

3. Attend a pre-mediation or Guided Separation

This 1 hour session can be done in person, over the phone, via Skype yourself or, in the case of mediation, with your legal representative.

Being well prepared for a mediation or Guided Separation is important. Understanding the process, how long it goes for and what information you need to have on the day makes for a more efficient and less expensive experience. This particularly applies to fully understanding what is in your joint pool of assets.

4. Attend your mediation or Guided Separation session

The goal of this session is to achieve resolution. The standard is a 3 or 4 hour session, however this depends on the amount of preparation you have done and how much progress can be made on the day.

5. Come to a settlement agreement

Settle the resolution and ensure the agreement is enforceable, assisted by external legal advice.
